Author: D M Dooling / Paul Jordan-Smith
Publisher: Harper Collins
Price: 25.00

This collection of essays and stories, many of which first appeared in Parabola magazine, range from descriptions of traditional Native American lifestyles and sacred rituals to startlingly apt prophesies of the coming of Europeans and descriptions of the struggle to live the traditional Native teachings in a world that has gone in a very different direction. The stories included are retellings of traditional tales; the text is further enhanced by a series of powerful illustrations by contemporary Native American artists. Author Biography: D. M. Dooling was founder and editorial director of Parabola magazine and president of the Society for the Study of Myth and Tradition. Paul Jordan-Smith served as a senior editor of Parabola, with responsibility for the "Epicycles," retellings of traditional stories, myths, and legend. Title: Compassionate Life
Author: Venerable Master Miao Lien
Publisher: Infinite life
Price: 30.00
Description:
First edition enerable Master Miao Lien, born in 1922, took up monastic life at age nine. During a time of war, chaos, and calamity in China, he experienced and gained a deep understanding of the sufferings in the Saha World. Molded by this trying period, he resolved to practice diligently and, consequently, made great achievements in learning the Dharma. He became even more compassionate and mindful of sentient beings. As our Venerable Master strove to realize Buddhahood and guide countless sentient beings to transcendence, his compassion and vows were one with those of the Buddhas and the Bodhisattvas. With Amitabha Buddha’s forty-eight vows as his foundation, the Venerable Master made a forty-ninth vow: I will help all sentient beings that have seen me or heard my sermons, or even just my name, to transcend to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss; for those who do not transcend in this life, I will continue my mission in future lives until all transcend. Venerable Master Miao Lien’s life exemplifies this Buddha Path. From leaving home aged nine to become a monk to twenty years of concentrated practice in seclusion to building the international network of Lingyen Mountain Temple monasteries, the Venerable Master emulated the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas by embracing every being as himself and caring for us all, like a father cares for his children. On June 25, 2008, at the age of eighty-eight, Venerable Master Miao Lien entered Nirvana in a state of tranquility at the Lingyen Mountain Temple in Nantou, Taiwan. He had been a fully ordained monk for sixty-eight years. Physical existence is transient, but the legacy of compassion and virtue the Venerable Master painted during his lifetime will continue to extend beyond the limits of time and space to find manifestation in every Bodhi mind. this beautiful paperback book in folio presentation with plenty of beautiful pictures is a first edition and has 154 pages , brand new book

Title: Embers One Ojibway's Meditations
Author: Richard Wagamese
Publisher: Douglas & McIntyre
Price: 30.00
Description:
In this carefully curated selection of everyday reflections, Richard Wagamese finds lessons in both the mundane and sublime as he muses on the universe, drawing inspiration from working in the bush—sawing and cutting and stacking wood for winter as well as the smudge ceremony to bring him closer to the Creator. Embers is perhaps Richard Wagamese's most personal volume to date. Honest, evocative and articulate, he explores the various manifestations of grief, joy, recovery, beauty, gratitude, physicality and spirituality—concepts many find hard to express. But for Wagamese, spirituality is multifaceted. Within these pages, readers will find hard-won and concrete wisdom on how to feel the joy in the everyday things. Wagamese does not seek to be a teacher or guru, but these observations made along his own journey to become, as he says, "a spiritual bad-ass," make inspiring reading. "Life sometimes is hard. There are challenges. There are difficulties. There is pain. As a younger man I sought to avoid them and only ever caused myself more of the same. These days I choose to face life head on—and I have become a comet. I arc across the sky of my life and the harder times are the friction that lets the worn and tired bits drop away. It's a good way to travel; eventually I will wear away all resistance until all there is left of me is light. I can live towards that end." —Richard Wagamese, Embers Beautiful new book , great photography and text , 176 pages . B.C book prize winner.

Title: There will your Heart be
Author: J M A Mills
Publisher: Andrew Dakers
Price: 20.00
Description:
Likely a first edition. Janet Melanie Ailsa Mills was considerably more prolific than I had suspected, having forged a dual career under the by-line of “H. K. Challoner”. Under the Challoner pseudonym we find quite a variety of work, including Watchers of the Seven Spheres from Routledge, The Wheel of Rebirth: Some Memories of an Occult Student, The Sword & the Spirit: A Study of the Inner Meaning of the War (in collaboration with P. G. Bowen, to whom the present book is dedicated), two collaborations with Roland Northover—and even a self-published volume of poetry! Under her own name, Ms. Mills had at least three other books published, with at least two of them appearing to be novels: Marsh Fires (John Lane, 1928). The Way Triumphant (Hutchinson & Co., 1927) and, finally, There Will Your Heart Be… (Andrew Dakers, 1945).... the works that of a serious student of the occult who also knew how to tell an effective story when she wanted to. Our main regret as readers is that her interest in writing fiction took a back seat to her more serious work. This is an old book being from 1945. the original navy blue cloth cover of this hard cover is hardly readable as far as the title and author name on the spine. The inside is clean , one name of past owner on end papers, but in good condition , no writing or damage , the spine is solid, 246 pages ... some figure markings on back end papers.

Title: The Curious Incident of the dog in the Night-time
Author: Mark Haddon
Publisher: Anchor canada
Price: 21.00
Description:
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time Synopsis A murder mystery like no other, this novel features Christopher Boone, a 15 year-old who suffers from Asperger's syndrome. When he finds a neighbour's dog murdered, he sets out on a journey which will turn his whole world upside down. Mark Haddon’s best-selling story of how Christopher, a boy with Asperger's syndrome, sees the world and makes sense of it in his own particular way became a success for children and adults alike. When Christopher finds a dead dog on his neighbour's lawn he applies the principles he has learnt from Sherlock Holmes, his own literary hero, to the situation and so begins the narration of his own remarkable story. In particular, Christopher traces the mystery surrounding his mother's absence and his father's unexpected behaviour, drawing on the clues he can understand. Christopher's use of clues that help him rather than using the more familiar props of emotional recognition make this story a very special journey of discovery. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a 2003 mystery novel by British writer Mark Haddon. Its title refers to an observation by the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes (created by Arthur Conan Doyle) in the 1892 short story "The Adventure of Silver Blaze". Haddon and The Curious Incident won the Whitbread Book Awards the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book, and the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. Unusually, it was published simultaneously in separate editions for adults and children. The novel is narrated in the first-person perspective by Christopher John Francis Boone, a 15-year-old boy who is described as "a mathematician with some behavioural difficulties" living in Swindon, Wiltshire. Although Christopher's condition is not stated, the book's blurb refers to Asperger syndrome (which today would be described as an autism spectrum disorder), high-functioning autism, or savant syndrome. In July 2009, Haddon wrote on his blog that "The Curious Incident is not a book about Asperger's...if anything it's a novel about difference, about being an outsider, about seeing the world in a surprising and revealing way. The book is not specifically about any specific disorder", and that he, Haddon, is not an expert on the autism spectrum or Asperger syndrome. The book uses prime numbers to number the chapters, rather than the conventional successive numbers. Originally written in English, it has been translated into 36 additional languages. 226 pages in new condition , thus perfect.
